Modulift Spreader Beams Support Modular Building Installations
Modular Building Installations
Specialist lifting equipment manufacturer, Modulift, has supplied the lifting equipment for installation of modular buildings in recent projects led by DLH Lifting Services. The projects involved lifting large modular units into position while overcoming complex spatial constraints and restricted working environments. These lifts highlight the adaptability of Modulift’s spreader beams and spreader frames, which offer a range of rigging configurations.
A key component of this operation was the use of Modulift’s MOD® spreader beams, which provided the strength and adaptability needed to safely manoeuvre these modular structures into place. The demand for modular construction continues to rise due to its efficiency and sustainability, making high-quality lifting solutions essential.
Flexible Rigging Configurations
DLH Lifting Services, responsible for overseeing the project, utilised Modulift’s spreader beams to ensure precise and safe positioning of the modular buildings. The many possible rigging configurations of Modulift’s products allowed for tailored lifting setups, accommodating the varying weights and dimensions of each modular building. The spreader beams and CMOD spreader frames distribute the forces of the slings which could otherwise cause damage to the structure of these modular units.
The custom-made Modulift ‘H-Frame’ is an alternative lifting method specifically designed for lifting modular buildings. Made to any size and specification, custom lifting beams offer superior stability and ease of handling, making them perfect for loads that are too flexible or fragile to be lifted without support.
Challenges of Modular Lifting
Modular buildings are becoming increasingly popular due to their cost-effectiveness, faster construction timelines, and reduced environmental impact. These prefabricated units are manufactured off-site and transported to their final location, allowing for more efficient use of materials and labour. However, lifting and installing modular structures presents unique challenges, including precise positioning, varying unit sizes, and ensuring structural integrity during transportation and placement. Overcoming these challenges requires specialised and versatile lifting solutions that can handle heavy loads at different spans, while maintaining safety and efficiency.
Sarah Spivey, Managing Director at Modulift, commented: “Our spreader beams have proven to be a vital asset in modular construction. The ability to adapt to different lifting requirements while maintaining the highest safety standards is what makes our equipment the preferred choice in the industry.”
