Meet the Team

Sarah Spivey, Managing Director


Since Sarah's appointment to Modulift in 2008 she has worked closely with the in-house engineering team, identifying the need for managing the safety concerns of customers through a portfolio of global standards as well as providing high QA levels of design and manufacture. Ultimately this has developed Modulift from spreader beam manufacturer, to specialist lifting equipment engineering company offering high quality products to customers around the world.

As a Business Studies graduate, Sarah previously specialsed as a Marketing Consultant working for numerous high profile Business-to-Business companies through the UK; growing their individual brands and turnover. Sarah is currently working towards a Chartered Director qualification through The Institute of Directors ensuring that governance and leadership stay at the forefront of the business.

Sue Spencer, Technical Director

Sue graduated from Exeter University with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering back in 1997, and always had a passion for this field from a young age. Sue began her career as a design engineer within the lifting industry working for a local company, and focused primarily on the design of standard and custom lifting equipment and lifting rigs. During the 5 years experience gained, Sue came up with the design for what is now Modulift's flagship product - the Modular Spreader Beam, and started her own company back in 2002 based on the initial success of the product. Sue manages the Engineering Team that consists of 5 talented individuals who are continuously working on exciting designs for the future.

Paul Smith, Operations Director

Paul started his career as an engineering apprentice, gaining ONC and HNC's in mechanical engineering before going on to complete a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business from Southampton University. His first employment was with a lift design and manufacturing company, where he progressed from project engineer to project manager, before relocating from Hampshire to Somerset. For the past 10 years he has worked at a subcontract manufacturing company, first as a project manager and most recently as their operations manager. Paul has undertaken a wide range of projects from implementing ERP systems and managing manufacturing improvement projects, through to designing business management dashboards and reporting using SQL databases. He joins Modulift to manage our manufacturing activities and to develop supplier relationships to facilitate future growth.

Andy Charlesworth, Business Development Manager

Andy started his career working for Bridon International in their accounts department before moving into Wire Sales.  Career progression over the next 18 years saw him cover a wide variety of Bridon’s product lines incl. wire, strand, ropes & rigging travelling to most of the world during this time.  After Bridon, sister company Crosby came calling and Andy became Sales Manager for UK, before being promoted to Sales Director for Northern Europe.  After 7 years at Crosby, he left the industry to spend more time with his wife and young family, coaching & even still trying to play football! Andy has recently joined Modulift as Business Development Manager for UK & Europe to support our existing network of customers as well as develop new opportunities during these exciting times at Modulift.

Marcos Sanz Gomez, Senior Design Engineer

Marcos is Modulift's longest serving Mechanical Design Engineer, so he gets all the interesting and challenging custom lifting equipment designs. He studied Industrial Engineering (MEng) in Barcelona (his birth place) and finished his Master's Thesis in Aberdeen. After working as a lead engineer for a big pump company and doing a postgraduate course in Project Management in Glasgow, he and his partner decided to move down to warmer and dryer climes, Poole. Here, shortly after moving, Marcos started working at Modulift in 2012. 



Hope Pearce, Design Engineer

Hope has been a part of the Engineering Team since 2015, where she originally started as a Draughtsperson and quickly rose to become a Design Engineer. Before working at Modulift Hope attended the University of the West of England where she obtained a degree in Product Design Technology (BSc Hons). Her main day to day duties include completing complex customer enquries and rig drawings, along with working close with Tom Cox and the Project's Team on the more QA dependant jobs and custom lifting equipment. Outside of work Hope likes to bake, especially cupcakes which she regularly brings into the office for her colleagues to enjoy!  

Estee Grigg, Despatch Administrator

Estee comes from a Logistics background, where she was responsible for dispatching goods (including Hazardous / Dangerous Goods Consignments) via land, sea and air freight. Estee was keen to ensure on time delivery of orders and projects. Prior to this, Estee worked within the Civil Enforcement Industry for 10 years dealing with Local Government Authorities and undertaking a Legal Compliance role as the companies Complaints Officer. Within her Despatch Administrator role at Modulift she hopes to achieve a wider knowledge of Engineering and the many different custom lifting projects Modulift produce. Outside of work, she enjoys taking her dog for adventurous walks and spending time with friends; playing board games, going to cookery classes or attempting different activities.

John Baker, Sales Director

John began his career within the construction industry starting as a site supervisor assistant and worked up to running a small works project for a local construction company. After 6 years in the construction industry, John landed a position with a national constructions products supplier as a Technical Sales Exec. A few years on John was offered a position with a lifting gear hire and sales company in bristol and this was the start of his career within the lifting and engineering business. John joined Modulift in 2017 and supports the UK and European distributor and reseller network, identifying and developing new business opportunities as well as focusing on custom lifting requirements that our customers need.


Lucy Brooker, Account Manager

After finishing College with a Beauty Therapy Level 3 NVQ qualification, recently engaged Lucy had a change of heart and decided to work for a local Engineering company for 4 years. In 2016 Lucy was snapped up by Modulift to work within the Sales Department managing the Account Executives and working closely with customers to provide quotations, quickly and efficiently. Lucy looks over all standard spreader beam orders as well as custom lifting equipment order. Outside of work Lucy enjoys going to the gym and taking her two family dogs for long walks. 




Harshal Kulkarni, Engineering Manager


Harshal graduated with a Master’s degree in structural engineering in 2008 from Pune University, one of India’s top universities. He started his career as a structural design engineer in the oil and gas sector, rapidly progressing to a senior position. 
In 2013, he moved to Bahrain to work for Nass Corporation, the largest manufacturing and lifting company in Bahrain, as an engineering manager for their fabrication and heavy lifting division. He worked within Nass Industrial Services and Sarens Nass, a joint venture with the crane and heavy lifting Belgium-based company.
Harshal joined Modulift in April 2019 as the engineering manager of our in-house engineering team. His global experience in the lifting industry and ability to develop smart engineering tools, strengthens Modulift’s ability to produce fast-paced quality designs and to develop new lifting products. 
Outside of work, he has a great passion for playing chess and has a professional FIDE rating of 1400 +

Jordan Sibley, Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Jordan’s Mechanical Engineering career began when he studied at Plymouth university, after graduating he took on a Masters year which involved a large interdisciplinary project based on the renovation and redevelopment of Plymouth’s waterfront. Jordan then moved to Dorset where he got hands on experience with a manufacturing company working on the factory floor in a CNC turning cell. Jordan’s skills developed and he moved in to a design based role for special purpose machinery company, working across multiple products for use in the food and packaging industries. Now Jordan is seeking new challenges and will work on gaining a better understanding of how engineering practices translate across different industries. In his spare time Jordan has a huge passion for music and travels across the country to see his favourite bands live. 

Matt Roberts, Senior Project Engineer

Shortly after moving to the UK from South Africa, where he got his draughting qualification Matthew started his role at Modulift as a Draughtsperson. Since joining the team Matthew has now moved on to the role of Project Engineer and is part of the Projects Team. He takes care of custom lifting equipment as well as off-the-shelf products that may need to be enhanced with high levels of QA or proof load testing. Matthew has only been with Modulift since 2016 and looks forward to where his career will take him. 


Tom Sturt, Business Systems & HR Manager


Coming from an oil & gas marine background, Tom spent 5 years with BP Maritime Services. Following a period of further education, Tom graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marine & Operations Management from Warsash Maritime Academy, obtaining a First Class Honours. Tom has developed into our Business Systems & Estate Manager. Day to day Tom co-ordinates Facility, HR Management and our Management Systems, relating to Quality, the Environment and Occupational Health and Safety, as well as maintaining our Industry Approvals: FPAL and JOSCAR. Tom has obtained Chartered Quality Professional status within the Chartered Quality Institute (CQP MCQI).
