Lifting Rig Design

At Modulift we have experienced lifting engineers that can design complex rigs and can assist you in managing your lift projects.

For a lift to be undertaken safely, the rig must be designed with care by a experienced engineer to ensure that the lift will be balanced and the appropriate lifting gear used.

Issues to consider when planning a lift:

  • Weight of Load.
  • Position of Center of Gravity of Load.
  • Overall maximum dimensions of Load.
  • Position of lifting lugs / lifting points, quantity etc.
  • Design of the appropriate lifting gear to suit lifting points and Center of Gravity.
  • Height restriction.
  • Risk Assessment.
  • Method Statement.

Modulift can help with all of these points. Modulift can design custom industrial lifting equipment to enable you to conform to the appropriate lifting standards.

Multiple Lifting Point Rigs.

Spreader beams are specfically designed to lift loads that have 2 lifting points i.e. they are used in a 2-point lift. Where lifts require 3+ lifting points, several spreaders can be combined into a more complex spreader rig, connected by slings and shackles. The more spreaders used in the rig, the more lifting points that can be achieved. Modulift’s engineers can assist in planning and designing a lift where multiple point lifts are required, taking into account the position of the load’s Center of Gravity, limited height, position of lifting points etc. to ensure a safe, level, balanced lift.

Modulift can also assist by being present siteon your job site, to weigh the load in order to determine the position of the Center of Gravity if it is not known.

The following photo shows a 10 pt lift, employing a total of 7 spreaders. The following photo shows a 4-spreader rig to achieve 6 lifting points, used at Heathrow airport.

The following pictures show a container that was weighed to find the CG position, and the slings were supplied short on one side to ensure that the unit lifted up level. This unit is a classic ‘1 over 2’ spreader rig to achieve 4 lifting points. It is an ideal alternative to a 4 point lifting frame, where height is not an issue.
