Meet the Team

Sarah Spivey, Managing Director

 

Since Sarah's appointment to Modulift in 2008 she has worked closely with the in-house engineering team, identifying the need for managing the safety concerns of customers through a portfolio of global standards as well as providing high QA levels of design and manufacture. Ultimately this has developed Modulift from spreader beam manufacturer, to specialist lifting equipment engineering company offering high quality products to customers around the world.

As a Business Studies graduate, Sarah previously specialsed as a Marketing Consultant working for numerous high profile Business-to-Business companies through the UK; growing their individual brands and turnover. Sarah is currently working towards a Chartered Director qualification through The Institute of Directors ensuring that governance and leadership stay at the forefront of the business.

Sue Spencer - Technical Director

Sue graduated from Exeter University with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering back in 1997, and always had a passion for this field from a young age. Sue began her career as a design engineer within the lifting industry working for a local company, and focused primarily on the design of lifting equipment and lifting rigs. During the 5 years experience gained, Sue came up with the design for what is now Modulift's flagship product - the Modular Spreader Beam, and started her own company back in 2002 based on the initial success of the product. Sue manages the Engineering Team that consists of 5 talented individual who are working on exciting designs for the future.

Lucy Brooker, Sales Administrator

After finishing College with a Beauty Therapy Level 3 NVQ qualification, recently engaged Lucy had a change of heart and decided to work for a local Engineering company for 4 years. In 2016 Lucy was snapped up by Modulift to work within the Sales Department alongside the Sales Manager and works closely with customers to provide quotations, quickly and efficiently. Outside of work Lucy enjoys going to the gym and taking her two family dogs for long walks.  

 

 

Sophie Briggs, Marketing Manager

Sophie relocated to Dorset in 2013 and began working for Modulift within the Sales Department as an assistant. During Sophie's time with the company she quickly showed passion for marketing and branding so transferred over to the marketing team as an executive in 2014. Since then Sophie has been studying with the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has gained her Level 4 Foundation degree, and is currently finishing off her Level 6 Undergraduate degree, with her latest assignment and exam gaining her a merit.

Malcolm Peacock, Business Development Manager

Malcolm started working for a lifting equipment sales and rental company in Bristol on the shop floor. His roles included assembling wire rope and chainslings, preparing other lifting equipment and orders for sales and rentals. Malcolm continued to develop his career in the industry as a Sales Representative and Branch Manager, and in 2007 relocated to Abu Dhabi. Joining Modulift in 2014 Malcolm works on developing the Middle East and Asia Pacific interests for Modulift, and works closely and supports many international Modulift distributors.

 

 

Ian Locke, Senior Design Engineer

Ian joined Modulift in 2017 with a broad mechanical engineering background, and felt Modulift stood out as it represented an opportunity to work within a growing commpany directly on designing projects, right through from concept to final product. He brings 22 years of industrial machinery design experience to the role, with previous industries served including: medical, carbon fibre and optical disc sectors. Ian also enjoys keeping the office biscuit barrel fully stocked to his colleague's high expectations and outside of work likes spending any spare time renovating his house.

Hope Pearce, Junior Design Engineer

Hope has been a part of the Engineering Team since 2015, where she originally started as a Draughtsperson and quickly rose to become a Junior Design Engineer. Before working at Modulift Hope attended the University of the West of England where she obtained a degree in Product Design Technology (BSc Hons). Her main day to day duties include completing complex customer enquries and rig drawings, along with working close with Simon and the Project's Team on the more QA dependant jobs. Outside of work Hope likes to bake, especially cupcakes which she regularly brings into the office for her colleagues to enjoy!

Simon Cranny, Project Manager

Simon has worked for Modulift longer than he likes to admit (he's in his 11th year now!). Before joining the team he worked for a marine engineering and manufacturing company. Simon carried out the original manufacturing of Spreader Beam components for Modulift before heeding the call to come and join the team. Today Simon is the manager of our Projects Team and is responsible for ensuring that the supply of products and services to customers who are involved in projects for speciality sectors such as Oil and Gas, Nulcear and the Energy Sector are to the correct specifications and delivered on time.

Matt Roberts, Project Engineer

Shortly after moving to the UK from South Africa , where he got this draughting qualification Matthew started his role at Modulift as a Draughtsperson. Since joining the team Matthew has now moved on to the role of Project Engineer and is part of the Projects Team, he takes care of custom projects as well as off-the-shelf products that may need to be enhanced with high levels of QA or proof load testing. Matthew as only been with Modulift since 2016 and looks forward to where his career will take him.

Sarah Day, Production Administrator

After escaping North London 20 years ago, Sarah set up roots in Dorset and hasnt looked back since! Being a proud mother of 2 teenageers you can always find her at the beach enjoying the Jurassic Coast, whilst photographing sunsets and capturing moments on her camera. Sarah joined Modulift in 2017 as a Production Administrator and brings over 30 years of business administration experience. Sarah's main duties consist of order processing and dispatching as well as arranging all trasportation. 

 

Paul Savage, Finance Manager

Paul graduated from Liverpool University with a degree in Law, and after 11 years of legal type work for motor accident claims, he tried his hand at self-employment. Paul went on to work as an Office Administrator for a local vending company for nearly 7 years before moving to Dorset. Paul began his career at Modulift in 2009 and was then offered a permanent role as an Administration Assistant, then moved on to Sales Orders Co-Ordinator. In 2015 Paul began his Advanced Diploma in Accounting and passed a year later with flying colours, he is now Modulift's Finanace Manager.

Chris Schwab, Sales Manager

Chris studied Engineering at college and was selected to be the Electrical and Mechanical Apprentice for a company specialising in GM research. After spending 7 years completing his apprenticeship, Chris started working as a maintenance engineer for a national building contractor, then relocated to Dorset in 2007. Chris was introduced to Modulift and begain his career as an estimator, and has now progressed to Internal Sales Manager. Chris looks after the daily sales enquiries and assisting customers with any technical requirements they may have. Outside of work, Chris has a wife, two wonderful children and when he gets the time he is usually tinkering with his car.

Emily Knock - Sales Support Assistant

Emily is Modulift's first ever apprentice and joined the team in 2016. After completing her A Levels in English Literature, Psychology, Business Studies and Sports, Emily decided to start an apprenticeship. Day to day Emily is the first point of contact for all incoming calls, building and sending standard quotations and is a general help to those around the office as well as making the best cups of teas and coffees (subject to opinion!). While Emily aims to complete her Level 2 apprenticeship she hopes she can progress to the next level whilst developing her knowledge Sales and Business Development aspects of the business. Outside of work, Emily enjoys competing on her horses nationally, which is something she has done since she was little.

Ellie Rose, Digital Marketing Apprentice

Ellie graduated in 2015 with a BA Hon's Photography degree, since then she has worked in America and travelled across Europe. In 2017 Ellie was employed by Modulift to be the second apprentice in the team specialising in Digital Marketing. Ellie works closely with the Marketing Manager in all day to day aspects of Marketing whilst working towards her NVQ Level 3. Ellie shows great passion already to this industry and hopes to progress her marketing skills to a high quality level.

 

John Baker, Business Development Manager

John began his career within the construction industry starting as a site supervisor assistant and worked up to running a small works project for a local construction company. After 6 years in the construction industry, John landed a position with a national constructions products supplier as a Technical Sales Exec. A few years on John was offered a position with a lifting gear hire and sales company in bristol and this was the start of his career within the lifting and engineering business. John joined Modulift in 2017 and supports the UK and European distributor and reseller network, identifying and developing new business opportunities with blue chip companies across many industries.

Marcos Sanz Gomez - Mechanical Design Engineer

Marcos is Modulift's longest serving Mechanical Design Engineer, so he gets all the interesting and challenging custom lifting beam designs. He studied Industrial Engineering (MEng) in Barcelona (his birth place) and finished his Master's Thesis in Aberdeen. After working as a lead engineer for a big pump company and doing a postgraduate course in Project Management in Glasgow, he and his partner decided to move down to warmer and dryer climes, Poole. Here, shortly after moving, Marcos started working at Modulift in 2012. 

 

Ben Counsell, Assistant Engineer

Ben joined Modulift at the end of 2016 and has a strong passion for engineering having studied this at college. Studying at both Portsmouth and Southampton University Ben has also obtained a degree and masters degree in Engineering. As an Assistant Engineer Ben spends his time completing customer enquiries, calucation reports and helping out on some of the more unique customer requests.

 

 

Tom Cox, Project Engineer

After leaving education without a career path in mind, Tom was given the opportunity to work as a temp for Modulift back in 2011 as a Production and QA Assistant. The longer that Tom worked for Modulift, the more he began to see an opportunity to develop a career and soon set about making his temporary role permanent. 7 years on Tom has now worked his way up to become a Project Engineer within the recently formed Projects Team. Tom's main focus is to ensure that every customer's needs are met and that their orders are delivered to them as expected with all the relevant documentation quickly and efficiently.

Melissa Wood, Production Supervisor

Melissa completed education achieving A Levels in Biology, Psychology, Chemistry and Geography but didnt have a clear idea as to what career path to take to best utilise her talents. In 2015 Melissa joined Modulift as a Production Assistant and the role suited her so well that she quickly became a key member of the team. 18 months later her talents were recgonised and she was appointed as Supervisor. Melissa currently manages the whole Production Department, customer orders, transport, ordering of stock and purchasing.

Tom Sturt, Business Systems & Support

Coming from a marine background Tom spent 5 years with BP Maritime Services. Following a period of further education, Tom graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Marine & Operations Management from Warsash Maritime Academy, obtaining a First Class Honours. Tom has developed into our Business Systems & Support Manager. Day to day Tom co-ordinates our Management Systems, relating to Quality, the Environment and Occupational Health and Safety, as well as maintaining Industry Approvals: FPAL, JOSCAR and UVDB, and is currently undertaking courses to obtain Practitioner accrediation with the Chartered Quality Institue.
